How to format text in email? ›

Apply a new Built-In set to an email message

Click in the body of a new message, and then click the Format Text tab. In the Styles group, click Change Styles. Point to Style Set, and then click a Built-In set, such as Modern.

At the top left, click Compose. At the bottom of the message, click Formatting options .

It turns out this is expected behavior. Google reformats plain text emails sent through Gmail so that the messages adhere to RFC 2822's limit of 78 characters per line. If you'd like to avoid that, I'd suggest using the HTML option when configuring your email. Apologies for the confusion!

Select the text you want to modify. On the Home tab, click the drop-down arrow next to the Font box. A menu of font styles will appear. Select the font style you want to use.

In the left column, click Mail. In the second column, click Compose and reply. Under Message format, next to Compose messages in, select the desired format.

Email format refers to the structure and design of an email message. It encompasses various elements, including the layout, visual appearance, typography, and overall organization of the content.

When you forward an email, you may notice that some of the formatting is adjusted or changed slightly. This can happen if you add more text and/or are forwarding a certain type of email, especially if it is design or media-rich, in which case forwarding can alter its overall design.

Click on the Settings gear icon on the top right of the page, and choose Go back to the original view. You'll be prompted to give Google feedback about why you want to see the previous version. The text box can be left blank.

The default is formatted text; you can switch to plain text for any given message. To switch to plain text while creating or replying to any email, Click More options (three vertical dots icon near the lower-right corner).

The email message style selected affects what formatting tools are available for that message. When the message format is set to "plain text", the message formatting tools are not available. Plain text means exactly that - no frills, no hyperlinks, in essence it is text without any formatting.
